What is microneedling? Also, called Collagen Induction Therapy?
Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure. The purpose of this treatment is to generate new collagen and skin tissue to smooth, firm, and tone skin. It involves using tiny needles to puncture the skin, which in turn helps you look younger.

1. Enhanced Collagen Production: Microneedling stimulates collagen and elastin production, which are essential proteins responsible for maintaining the skin’s firmness and elasticity. With increased collagen, you can expect a reduction in fine lines, wrinkles, and even scars. Talk about turning back the clock!
2. Improved Skin Texture: If you struggle with uneven skin texture, enlarged pores, or acne scars, microneedling can be a game-changer. By promoting cell turnover and collagen remodeling, it helps to refine your skin’s texture, leaving you with a smoother and more youthful complexion. Say goodbye to those pesky imperfections!
3. Increased Product Absorption: One of the remarkable benefits of microneedling is that it enhances the absorption of topical skincare products. Those tiny punctures create microchannels in your skin, allowing your serums and creams to penetrate deeper and work more effectively. It’s like giving your skincare routine a turbo boost!

4. Minimal Downtime: Don’t worry, this treatment doesn’t require a long recovery period. While you may experience some redness or mild sensitivity immediately after the procedure, it typically subsides within a day or two. It’s the perfect treatment for busy bees who want to pamper their skin without interrupting their routine!
5. Versatility: Microneedling is a versatile treatment targeting various skin concerns. Whether you’re dealing with acne scars, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, or even stretch marks, microneedling can be tailored to address your specific needs. It’s like having a magic wand for your skin!
Microneedling is less expensive than laser treatments, which can cost about four times as much. Microneedling may work better for people with darker skin tones because it doesn’t involve heat the way laser treatments do, which can affect your skin’s pigmentation or color.
What Happens When You Get Microneedling?
Below is the process of the stages of wound healing:
- Stage 1 is hemostasis, the wound stops bleeding by forming a clot
- Stage 2 is inflammatory, WBCs (white blood cells) move toward the wound to fight infection
- Stage 3 is proliferative new tissue forms
- Stage 4 Remodeling collagen is recognized and starts to strengthen

Dermatologists (doctors specializing in skin care and disorders) can do micro-needling. Aestheticians can also perform the procedure as well. There are do-it-yourself-at-home versions of micro-needling devices.

The process of home micro-needling.
The procedure usually takes 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area. Most people need 4-6 treatments to see a difference.
- Cleanse your skin
- Apply a numbing cream
- After 20 minutes cleanse and dry your face to remove the numbing cream
- Wipe your face with an alcohol pad to get off any product still left on your skin
- Apply hyaluronic acid in sections for slip

Pure Hyaluronic Acid 1% Powder Serum for Face – Fine Line + Intense Hydration + facial moisturizer + Visibly Plumped Skin
- Microneedling in one area at a time until face and neck are complete
- Appy more hyaluronic acid until the next day
- Apply moisturizer and sunscreen starting the next day

The goal of the procedure is to start your body’s healing process by sending collagen to patch up tiny injuries. Collagen helps fill in and smooth out wrinkles.
Most people get micro-needling on the face, but it can also be done on other parts of the body, such as your stomach or thighs.
Microneedling Healing and Risks
Some things to think about before deciding to try it:
If you are using Retin A. I would recommend putting the Retin A on hold 5 days before and after your home micro-needling. Pay attention to your skin. Your skin will let you know if it is angry you then should back off of Retin A or any acids like vitamin C.
It’s not a quick fix:

It takes time to notice a difference. Because your body is trying to heal itself. You should wait about 4 to 5 weeks between treatments because your body is going through the different phases of wound healing and it takes time for your skin to remodel. Most people need a few treatments before they see any change.
Healing time
It may take days or weeks to heal, depending on how deep the needles pierce your skin but the tiny holes close within a day or two. You must wear sunscreen, your face will be very vulnerable to sunlight.
Pain and redness
You may have some minor pain after the procedure, and your skin may be red for a few days.
Peeling
Your skin may feel tight and flake a bit while it heals.
Bruising and bleeding
There’s usually no bleeding during micro-needling. However deep micro-needling treatments may cause the skin to bleed.
Possible scarring
Micro-needling isn’t a good idea for people who’ve had keloids, scars that look like large bubbles on the skin. It could make the condition worse.
Infection
Micro-needling creates tiny holes in the skin, which could let germs enter, especially if your equipment isn’t cleaned well. But the risk of infection is very low. If you’re healthy, an infection from micro-needling is unlikely.
Microneedling Safety and Costs
Microneedling is considered safe. But like any procedure, it has risks.
You could have an allergic reaction to the cream or serum that you put on your skin before or after micro-needling. And the wounds might get infected if you don’t keep your skin clean. I would recommend not using irritating soaps, lotions, or serums. Please clean your equipment with alcohol after every use.
Microneedling can be very beneficial. You will notice a difference in your skin. Your future radiant self will thank you.
